Same destination, two ways to travel
Both the shared Visa Run Tour and the Private Visa Run Tour (private tour) get you to the same result: out of Vietnam through a border gate, a renewed E-Visa, and back in with a fresh period of stay.
The difference isn't the DESTINATION. It's the EXPERIENCE on the way — and the price.
🧭 The shared tour is cheaper. The private tour costs more. The question isn't "which is better" but "is the difference worth it for ME".
And we'll answer honestly — even when the answer is "you don't need the private tour".
⚖️ PART 1 — WHAT'S DIFFERENT
| 🚌 SHARED TOUR (standard Visa Run Tour) | 🚗 PRIVATE TOUR (Private Visa Run Tour) | |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule | Set group-tour departures | You pick the time |
| Who you travel with | Shared with other guests | Only your group |
| Pickup | Common meeting point | Door-to-door |
| Stops | On the shared schedule | Flexible, on your terms |
| Cost | 💰 Lower | 💰💰 Higher |
| Best for | Solo, budget | Families, groups, control |

🚗 PART 2 — THE PRIVATE TOUR IS WORTH IT IF YOU…
✅ Travel with family or a group — split per person, the gap shrinks a lot, and you travel just with your own people ✅ Have young kids or older travellers — you need flexible stops, no waiting, no sharing ✅ Can't lose a whole fixed day — you pick the departure time to fit your work ✅ Get motion sick — stop when you need to, take the best spot ✅ Want privacy — you'd rather not share a long journey with strangers ✅ Have a tight schedule — you need a trip on the exact date you want, without waiting for the tour to fill
In these cases, the extra isn't "paying for luxury" — it's buying back time, comfort and control.
🚌 PART 3 — THE SHARED TOUR IS ENOUGH IF YOU…
And here's the part we'll say plainly, even though it doesn't help us push the pricier option:
✅ Travel solo and budget comes first ✅ Are flexible on timing — not tied to a set schedule, any day works ✅ Don't mind sharing with other guests ✅ Just need the visa renewed and done, without caring much about the ride
If that's you, don't pay extra for something you don't need. The shared tour does its job well.

🛂 PART 4 — SHARED OR PRIVATE, THE VISA RULES ARE THE SAME
This is what the tour type does NOT change. The private tour gives you a comfier spot and a schedule you control — but it gives you no privilege at the border.
- 🚨 Already overstayed? → You CAN'T go, private tour or not. An overstayer is not eligible to exit (Article 27, Law 47/2014). A private tour gets stopped at the exit desk just like the shared one.
- 📅 The date on your ENTRY STAMP is your date — not the one on your E-Visa. Check it right after entry.
- ✅ The decision to admit you rests with the officer at the border — no tour guarantees that.
🔔 And never overstay
A private tour won't save you from a forgotten date. An overstayer can't do a border trip to fix it — not even on the fanciest tour.
👉 Turn on free visa reminders with Visa Tracker — enter the date on your ENTRY STAMP, get alerts at 30 / 21 / 15 / 7 days. Free, no account needed.
⚠️ Common misconceptions
❌ "A private tour clears the border faster / easier." → NO. The immigration formalities are identical. A private tour gives you schedule control and comfort on the road, not any privilege at the border.
❌ "A private tour guarantees I'll be admitted." → NO. The officer at the border decides — no tour changes that.
❌ "I've overstayed, so I'll book a private tour to be safe." → POINTLESS. An overstay means you're not eligible to exit. You'll be stopped at the desk, private or shared. Resolve the overstay first.
❌ "A private tour is always worth it." → NO. If you travel solo with no schedule constraints, the shared tour is enough. Pay extra only when you genuinely need control, privacy, or you're travelling as a group/family.
❌ "A private tour is far more expensive for a group." → Not necessarily. Split per head, the gap shrinks a lot — and your whole group travels together, privately.
