The E-Visa now works at nearly every international gate
Vietnam's E-Visa used to be valid only at a limited list of gates — making many people think carefully about their entry point. That has changed.
🔑 Under Resolution 389/NQ-CP (2 December 2025), the list of E-Visa gates expanded to 83 ports — covering air, land, and sea. In other words, you can enter at almost any international gate to begin your stay in Vietnam.
📊 The big picture
As of the 2026 update (Resolution 389/NQ-CP amending Resolution 127/NQ-CP of 2023), a total of 83 ports allow E-Visa entry/exit:
- ✈️ 17 international airports
- 🛂 27 land border gates
- 🚢 39 seaports
💡 That covers most — nearly all of Vietnam's international gates. Whether you arrive by plane, overland, or by sea, your E-Visa works.
(The list has been expanded several times; check the current official list before you travel.)
✈️ By air (17 international airports)
Including the familiar big ones: Noi Bai (Hanoi) · Tan Son Nhat (HCMC) · Da Nang · Cam Ranh (Nha Trang) · Phu Quoc · Cat Bi (Hai Phong) · Can Tho… and other international airports.
→ Cam Ranh (Nha Trang) is on the list — convenient if you're heading to the Nha Trang area. How to get from Cam Ranh Airport to Nha Trang
🛂 By land (27 gates with China, Laos, Cambodia)
Including the familiar ones: Moc Bai (Tay Ninh) · Huu Nghi (Lang Son) · Lao Cai · Lao Bao (Quang Tri) · Cau Treo (Ha Tinh) · Ha Tien (Kien Giang) · Bo Y (Kon Tum) · Mong Cai (Quang Ninh)… and more.
🔁 Very useful for a Visa Run Tour / Border Run Tour: when exiting and re-entering to renew an E-Visa, the travel unit can pick a sensible land gate for the group. → Visa Run Tour · Border Run or Visa Run?
🚢 By sea (39 seaports)
For cruise/sea travellers, including: Quang Ninh (Ha Long) · Hai Phong · Da Nang · Nha Trang · HCMC · Phu Quoc… and more.
💡 An important flexibility rule (few people know)
You're NOT locked into the exact gate you chose on the application.
Once your E-Visa (especially the multiple-entry, 90-day type) is approved, you can enter at any eligible gate on the list — even a different one from what you selected — as long as it's within the visa's validity dates. Changing your entry gate usually causes no issue.
✅ So if your plans change, you usually don't need to reapply just because you switched airport/gate — but verify to be sure.
🔔 Whichever gate you use, track your dates

⚠️ Common misconceptions
❌ "The E-Visa only works at a few big airports." → No longer true. There are now 83 gates (17 airports, 27 land, 39 seaports) per the 2026 update.
❌ "I must enter at the exact gate I picked on the application." → No. You can enter at any eligible gate, within your visa's validity.
❌ "Every single gate, even minor ones, accepts the E-Visa." → The list is broad but still a designated list — for less-common land gates, verify specifically first.
❌ "With an E-Visa I skip the QR declaration at Tan Son Nhat." → They're two separate things — the QR arrival card doesn't replace the E-Visa.
❌ "Switching gates means I need a new visa." → Usually not, if still within validity — but check.
